Prague, Czech Republic

This is one of two postcard drawings I did a long time ago, under extraordinary circumstances, and both were given away to equally extraordinary people at significant events in my life. (Unfortunately a photo of the second drawing, of the Charles Bridge, has been lost.)

They are the only two drawings I’ve done of a place and subjects I’ve never seen in person. I used a variety photos I had on hand in a book to craft the composition.

Spirituality in the Subway

One of the benefits of working in the religious press is that I have learned, over time and experience, how to properly talk about religion. We’ve all been advised, of course, to “never discuss religion and politics in polite company,” and most of the time that serves us well in avoiding a wicked argument or boring discourse. But religion, like most complicated subjects, can be discussed in an objective, intellectual manner that makes for fascinating and enlightening conversations, as long as its speakers know enough about it to make it worth attempting, that is.
